Dhanteras 2011 - Dhanteras Puja | Dhanteras Greetings
Dhanteras is observed at 13 day Krishna Paksh in the month Karthik. This is also known as Yamadeep. It is celebrated two days before Deepavali. After Sagar Manthan between Devtaas and Asura came Dhanvantri Vaid out of the sea by a Amrutha Kalash. It is, therefore, is Dhanteras is also known as Dhanvantri Jayanti.
On this day we ask for good health and wealth for the family.
Vidhi / Method to perform Puja :
In the evening, after seeing the star women in the house meetings for Puja. In some houses both men and women do puja.The 4 wick Deepak is on PATA. Oil / ghee is set in the Deepak with the Four Wicks. The cowries shell is placed on Deepak. This is called Yamadeep. This Deepak pleases Yamaraj and Pitar / deceased ancestors of the family.
Some water from panchpatra are sprinkled around the Deepak Puja is performed with roli, chawal and money. Four suhali and little Pether offered. Some people give kheel and batasha also Dhoop is on. Women perform puja to go around the Deepak four times and making Pranam. The oldest woman in the family or unmarried girl in the house put Tilak from the roli in chopda all sit for the puja.
One male employee in the house, cover your head with a cloth lit Deepak and keep it off on the right side of the main gate. After the puja, do family members pranaam to all older people to them.
